What you will be doing
- Speak to patients to offer a smoothie
- Encourage more reluctant patients by explaining to them what goes in the smoothie and how they are made and what the value is to them
- Offer other refreshments, such as tea, coffee and water
- Liaise with kitchen staff in the preparation areas to ensure the equipment is available and in good working order and that the ingredients have been delivered
- Prepare the smoothies in the kitchen, following the approved recipe and upholding high levels of cleanliness and hygiene standards
- Deliver smoothies to patients that have ordered one, being mindful to follow any contact precaution signs on doors to side rooms
- Ensure kitchen area is left clean and tidy, with all ingredients not used stored appropriately
- Support other non-clinical tasks for the ward, as requested by the ward staff
- Where appropriate, carry out feedback surveys with patients
The skills you need
- A friendly, positive, adaptable and approachable manner
- Ability to be empathetic, patient and calm in difficult situations if they arise
- Ability to work well within a diverse team
- Ability to follow instructions and be flexible when things change
- Ability to act on own initiative within set boundaries
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including English language
- Ability to respond to patient needs in a proactive and caring way
- Physically able to volunteer on your feet for several hours at a time and push a trolley to patients' bedsides
- Knowledge or understanding of hygiene standards in a food preparation setting would be an advantage, but training will be provided
