Plant Health Project Volunteer

RHS Garden Wisley, Woking, Surrey

Our Science Team is based in the purpose-built RHS Hilltop – The Home of Garden Science, located within the beautiful setting of RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey. Currently, is has two exciting volunteer opportunities to join the Plant Health Team to support our scientific research, one of which doesn’t need any prior experience.

We carry out scientific research on plant diseases such as Phytophthora, which is one of the most important diseases in UK gardens. A volunteer is needed for laboratory work to maintain and process samples, in order to survey and identify the Phytophthora species in the RHS Gardens.

Applicants should have an interest and basic knowledge in plant pathology and enjoy working in a laboratory setting and be keen to develop their laboratory skills.

This volunteering opportunity is available on weekdays, one or two days per week from 10am to 4pm with an hour for lunch.

To apply, complete an online application form, even if you have volunteered with us before. Please note this link will take you through to our Volunteer Portal where, if you have not already done so, you will be prompted to create a log in before progressing to the application form. If you have used this system before, please use your existing log in details.

Please ensure that you describe in your application how your skills and experience are relevant to the role you are applying for (as specified in the role descriptions) as this is how we shortlist applications.

Informal discussions with shortlisted applicants will take place on the 15, 16 and 17 February 2022.

We are committed to being an inclusive recruiter and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. We would particularly welcome applicants who are aged 18-25 years as we are underrepresented in this age group. We are also committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk and expect all volunteers to share this commitment.

The closing date for all applications is Sunday 23 January 2022.
