Mentor for Mums
Mentors for Mums provide emotional, social and practical support to mothers of children aged 5 and up, either online, over the phone or face to face. Over 12 to 24 weeks mentors offer coaching-style support to empower mums to identify changes they wish to make and goals they wish to achieve. Volunteers support mums, provide listening ear and talk through the challenges mothers face. Together, mentor and mentee explore how to achieve the goals and deal with individual challenges.
We carefully match our volunteers with mothers who are at risk of social isolation and living in Westminster. We will support you to make a trusting relationship with your mentee, give you training and resources to support you on your journey as a mentor. You may support mums getting into employment or education, make social connection within the local community or provide emotional support to those facing challenges as parents.
We ask volunteers to commit to 1-2 hours weekly support sessions, over the period of six months (24 sessions in total).
1) Online training covering topics like safeguarding, confidentiality, the person centred approach, etc. This can take around 2 hours and can be done at the time that suits you.
2) Coaching and Mentoring Live training - we run this training either on Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings, over 4 hours via Zoom.
Volunteers are required to attend monthly group supervisions, held during the weekday in the evenings. Supervisions are a great place to meet other mentors and share skills and ideas around mentoring, as well get support with the challenges they may face.
Due to the nature of our clients we are only accepting female volunteers for this role.
