RHS Garden Wisley, Woking, Surrey, GU23 6QB

RHS Garden Wisley is one of the world’s great gardens, packed with horticultural inspiration. Our founding purpose is to improve the science, art and practice of horticulture. We lead the way in providing a single authoritative, global knowledge bank for gardening and garden plants, and the RHS Herbarium plays a key role in this. We hold the largest collection of dried plant specimens dedicated to cultivated plants in the UK and offer exciting opportunities for volunteers.

The Herbarium team have ambitious plans to augment the new Herbarium by collecting further representative specimens of every different ornamental plant in cultivation.

We’re currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help in two roles:

Herbarium ‘Window of Wonderment’ Volunteer – to help prepare and mount plant specimens.

The ‘Window of Wonderment’ Volunteer role is available during the week, on any day Monday to Friday, and will start in June 2021.

Herbarium Collecting Volunteer – to support with the collection and recording of plant specimens within our gardens

The Herbarium Collecting Volunteer role is only available on Mondays and Wednesdays and will start in July 2021.

Typical days are from 10am to 4pm (with one hour for lunch). To fulfil our needs in the Herbarium, we ask for a weekly commitment from our volunteers. Full guidance will be provided in order to carry out the required tasks. Depending on current Covid-19 restrictions, induction and initial training may need to be done online prior to volunteering on-site.

To apply please visit our website via the link.

All applications should be received by 9pm on Monday 3 May.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a short informal interview via Zoom from week commencing 10 May.

We are committed to being an inclusive recruiter and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. We are also committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk and expect all volunteers to share this commitment.
