Brook is looking for new trustees who share our passion for changing the lives of young people

About Brook - Brook is proud to be the UK’s leading charity supporting, educating and empowering young people from diverse communities to make informed decisions about their sexual health and wellbeing for 55 years. We believe in a society where young people are free to be themselves.

Our mission is to equip young people for life’s challenges. We know being a young person can be tough, and through our innovative clinical services, digital support, tailored counselling and inspiring relationships and sex education, young people are able to take charge of their sexual health and wellbeing.

We demand better for young people. We fight for young people’s rights, amplify their voice and campaign to protect their specialist services. By changing perceptions and developing skills, we give professionals the knowledge and confidence to deliver the quality services that young people need and deserve.

Our work today is needed more than ever with young people facing a growing range of new and complex challenges and issues. In 2019/20, we supported 1.4 million young people nationwide.  Our support empowers young people to deal with real life challenges from relationships, body image and cyber-bullying, to sexuality, consent and physical and sexual abuse.  These challenges have exponentially increased for young people during the pandemic; one place that young people have been able to turn throughout lockdown, and will continue to be able to turn, is Brook.

In April 2020, we launched our new strategic plan; launching our new strategy in the midst of the pandemic has proved our organisational resilience and commitment.  We are proud our clinical services stayed open throughout local and regional lockdowns, when many other sexual health services closed their doors. We have innovated and adapted our education and wellbeing programmes and training for professionals to ensure that young people can still access the support they need, when and how they need it.

About our Board - Our Board of Trustees bring a diverse wealth of skills and experience to Brook; they are committed to our values and are ambitious for Brook’s future. They are welcoming, engaging and work brilliantly as a team and in partnership with Brook’s Executive Team to achieve our vision, mission and strategic aims.

We recognise diversity and inclusion are a source of strength in achieving our mission and we want to reflect the diversity of the young people we support at all levels in the organisation. We therefore welcome everyone, particularly those from under-represented groups.  Following a recent review of the Board, we are keen to receive applications from BAME communities.

We have a Code of Good Governance and work in accordance with the national code of good governance for the voluntary sector.  We provide induction, ongoing training, the opportunity to be mentored by another trustee and a supportive environment.   The profiles of our current trustees can be viewed at

About the role - Brook is looking to appoint an experienced trustee who can help engage and develop corporate partnerships. We have a number of existing partnerships including a longstanding relationship with Bayer AG, a multinational pharmaceutical company. We recently worked with Bayer’s Canesten brand educating young women on intimate health. A partnership with Lil-lets supported delivery of Brook’s successful period poverty project and online teacher training to promote excellent education on puberty.

We are keen to expand and diversify our corporate partnerships. We believe we have a lot to offer a potential corporate partner from association with our excellent and trusted brand to our extensive young people’s reach.

We are looking for:

  • Expertise in supporting corporate engagement and/or partnerships.
  • Current work experience in the corporate sector.
  • Experience, or an interest in, developing partnerships between charities and businesses that are beneficial to both parties.
  • An insight and understanding of corporate social responsibility.
  • Excellent networking skills and contacts which will be invaluable in developing effective new corporate relationships to support our work.
  • Time commitment of 6 days per year; the board meets 4 times each year in London with an additional 2 days for strategic planning.  The role is unremunerated.
