Cancer is political. Make sure your politicians represent you and people affected by cancer. Key decisions on preventing, diagnosing and accessing cancer treatments lie in the hands of the Governments across the 4 UK nations. 1 in 2 people will get cancer in their lifetime and you can take action to save lives.

Become a Campaigns Ambassador and be part of a nationwide movement working together to beat cancer.

What will I be doing?

There’s a range of activities you’ll take to influence your politicians to tackle cancer. You’ll be part of a community across the UK who are a powerful force campaigning for change on urgent cancer issues. The most common campaign actions are:

• Writing to your local politician
• Meeting in person with your local politician
• Sharing our political campaign messages on social media
• Feeding back local information to Cancer Research UK
• Collecting petition signatures

You’ll be volunteering 1 to 2 hours per month. Activities are flexible and are mostly done from home and locally. 

What skills do I need?

Campaigns Ambassadors come from all walks of life. We’ll provide you with all the training and support that you need to do the role. You don't need experience of campaigning or politics to get involved.

Key skills and interests you’ll need are:

• Passion to support people affected by cancer and take action to make a difference
• A keen interest in the issues we campaign on such as earlier diagnosis and preventing of cancer
• The willingness to interact with a variety of audiences, especially politicians 
• You’ll do your campaign actions in your own time, at your own pace - so you need to be organised and a ‘self-starter’
• Campaigns can last for a long time before we succeed - you'll need to be determined and resilient

What support will we give you?

You’ll be supported every step of the way to take political action to beat cancer. Your support includes:

• Induction training to help you get started 
• Ongoing training and development to develop your campaigning skills
• Regular email and Facebook campaigning updates and activities for you to get involved in
• Campaigning resources and toolkits to help you take action 
• Peer support from fellow Ambassadors
• Ongoing support from Cancer Research UK’s Campaigns team 
• Agreed expenses

How does campaigning make a difference to me and people affected by cancer?

• You'll campaign to save lives. Today, 2 in 4 people survive the disease. Our ambition is to accelerate progress so that 3 in 4 people survive cancer by 2034 
• Use your voice and share your passion for beating cancer. You'll make sure your politicians represent you and people affected by cancer 
• A chance to develop a wide range of skills and knowledge to improve your CV
• Potentially gain new experiences, like TV and radio interviews, invitations to conferences, mass lobby days at parliament and visiting research centres 
• An opportunity to meet likeminded people and be part of a nationwide movement committed to beating cancer
