The Chaplain/Counsellor volunteer position, part of the Chaplaincy department, will be located on the Africa Mercy, the world's largest non-governmental hospital ship. The preferred minimum commitment for this role is two years. 

Summary: Promote spiritual, emotional, relational, and financial HEALTH for all crew. Provide and facilitate pastoral care for all Mercy Ships personnel. Influence, encourage, shepherd, teach, counsel and mediate in both proactive and responsive ways.

About the role: The primary focus of our on-board Chaplaincy team is to provide and facilitate the appropriate pastoral care for all Mercy Ships crew members. Our servant-hearted chaplains are here to promote spiritual, emotional, relational, and financial health, helping each volunteer fulfill their full potential with Mercy Ships. 

About you:

  • Master's degree (M.A.) or equivalent, or four years minimum related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least two years of international travel is desired
  • Clear criminal records check, background check and/or working with children certificate (or national equivalent)
