The Writer volunteer position, part of the Communications Department, will be located on the Africa Mercy, the world's largest non-governmental hospital ship. We are happy to consider a commitment of 1 year, but we also invite you to consider a longer engagement with Mercy Ships!

Summary: Use journalistic and writing abilities to tell the stories of our patients and communicate the activities and mission of Mercy Ships.

About the role: We need storytellers. Creative individuals who can look past the tumours and the scars and despair and see the person standing there. And then tell that person's story through images and words to the world. A story not of suffering, but of hope. 

About you:                                                                             

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, writing, mass media, or related field of study
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, responsive, and professional manner
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Access to applicant's online portfolio required with application
