East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) supports families and cares for children and young people with life threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, North Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.
Caring for a seriously ill child or young person can put extra demands on a family. The aim of this role is to offer these families practical support in their own homes. (Please note that this role does not include nursing care tasks such as personal care or feeding).
Practical duties of this role can include:
- Sibling Support (play, homework help, crafts, etc)
- Cleaning including vacuuming, dusting, washing and ironing
- Cooking, such as preparing meals or snacks
- Looking after pets including dog walking or grooming
- DIY and painting
This volunteering opportunity involves a variety of tasks and would be particularly attractive to those who have had previous experience working within a Social Care/Health/Education setting, those who have the ability to act with tact and discretion, the ability to work on their own initiative, those who are flexible, committed, reliable, non-judgemental, as well as friendly and welcoming. We ask our volunteers to commit for a minimum of 6 months. All training and support is provided all you need to give is some of your precious time.
You will be matched with a family based on your skills and personality, so not all of the above are necessary! There are opportunities for regular volunteering, fortnightly, monthly, and 'one-off' volunteering.
