seek to appoint

A Lay Member of Finance, Audit and Investment Committee

We are a medical membership organisation and charity seeking a lay member to join our Finance, Audit and investment Committee. We trade as two legal entities each with its own board of trustees/directors. The Finance, Audit and Investment Committee reports to both Boards and has responsibility for oversight of the consolidated financial position and for financial accounting for each of the two entities.

We recognise the contribution of lay members to our governance and across our different workstreams, and has recruited lay members with specialist skills and knowledge onto its committees and Board in recent years.

This is a voluntary role (unremunerated except for expenses) and offers an opportunity to contribute to the strategic development and financial strategy of a leading medical organisation dedicated to promoting patient safety and quality of care in this country and worldwide.

Lay members bring expertise, judgment and balance which may not be available among the elected directors and Trustees. Their principal assets will be their independence, detachment and the provision of an external view. It is envisaged that the new Lay Member will add value not only to the Finance, Audit and Investment Committee’s work but in the organisation as a whole e.g. by providing a sounding board for senior managers. There may be opportunities to become involved more widely, depending on the Lay Member’s individual preferences and time.
