Do you care about children’s futures? Do you have parenting or caring experience?
Home-Start is one of Greater Manchester’s leading family support charities. Each week our volunteers visit a local family in their own home who are struggling to cope. There are many different reasons for this including, illness, isolation/loneliness and multiple births. We support mums and dads from a range of backgrounds ages and cultures. Our unique early intervention approach means that often our volunteers are helping to stop families from reaching crisis point.
Having completed our training course, volunteers are matched to their Home-Start family and visit them for just a couple of hours each week, offering them a mix of emotional and practical support. Some families just need a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on, other families need practical help such as supporting a mum or dad with taking their children to the park, attending hospital appointments and signposting to other specialist services.
Our six Home-Starts in Greater Manchester also run specific projects that require volunteers; from school readiness and early learning through to breastfeeding support and parent/infant mental health.
Home-Start volunteers receive ongoing support and supervision throughout their Home-Start journey. Some volunteers use their Home-Start experience to enhance their education and employment opportunities, other volunteers want to increase their confidence and self- esteem. They all have one thing in common, to empower parents to be the best possible parents they can be for their children.
