Are you passionate about improving the lives of children, reuniting families, providing education or preventing child abandonment? Do you have the skills, personality and compassion to help us write our next chapter? We’re looking for enthusiastic team-players who are strongly committed to the values and goals of Their Future Today, to join our Board of Trustees and help us continue to enable disadvantaged children in Sri Lanka to reach their full potential.

Registered in 2010, Their Future Today works to improve the lives of institutionalised children and those disadvantaged through poverty. Through our programmes, we employ teachers and health professionals, as well as train carers to raise standards in institutions. Where possible children are reunited with families and community services are provided to support and strengthen families enabling them to reach self-sufficiency and prevent child abandonment. Our core activities include providing children with resources and schooling, as well as provide training to government workers in deinstitutionalisation and alternative care for children including foster and kinship care.

 

What you will be doing:

Playing a vital role in the strategic leadership and direction of Their Future Today, and helping the Board of Trustees fulfil its legal and financial responsibilities in its stewardship of the organisation.

As a trustee, attending meetings of the Board (approximately six per year) and its sub-committees, where much of the detailed scrutiny of activities takes place. Promoting and publicising the work of Their Future Today to a wide variety of audiences.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a range of professional skills, such as experience in:

  • social work

  • law

  • finance

  • IT

  • HR

  • PR

  • marketing

  • proposal writing

 

as well as life skills. You do not need to be a specialist to be valuable, if you apply fresh perspective and a bit of common sense, you’ll be doing a good job.

 

What impact the opportunity will have

You will help us to identify new, diverse and successful ways to generate income, including cultivation of individual and corporate donors, to ensure our long-term sustainability. Most importantly of all, helping us continue to change the cycle of poverty in Sri Lanka.
