Volunteer Community Safety Adviser - Torbay, Paignton, Brixham
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea, but it’s not limited to launching a lifeboat or providing lifeguards to save lives.
Community safety fulfils one of the four strands of the RNLI’s concept of operations, saving live at sea by providing free education and advice and facilitating other interventions through Community Lifesaving Plans.
The Coastal Safety Adviser is a public facing role as you will be going out into the community and delivering RNLI coastal safety advice directly to members of the community. Whilst other members of the team will be designing the Community Lifesaving Plan (which is aimed at reducing fatalities and serious incidents) and targeting particular ‘at risk’ groups, we are seeking additional advisers to provide face-to-face interventions at events and on an individual basis. Whilst you are out in the community we would ask you to take the opportunity to seek out further openings to promote the RNLI’s safety messages advising the Community Safety Officer of opportunities which may arise,
This is a great role for somebody who is of a proactive nature and has good communication and people skills. The ability to interact within a team will be important, also to have knowledge/experience of coastal and/or maritime activity such as boating, angling, diving, kayaking and waterside activity including open water swimming.
If you would like to join a dedicated and motivated team, fit the criteria above and want to apply or require further information please contact John Turner, Torbay Lifeboat Coastal Officer on 07866 689 315.
Training will be provided to ensure a full knowledge of the RNLI and in particular the work of the lifeboat Coastal Safety Team.
