Boathouse Guides help us save lives at sea by enabling visitors to see the RNLI boathouse at first hand, showing visitors our boats and launch vehicles.  They are also able to provide information on the RNLI and the history of Looe Lifeboats, as well as information about the latest shouts.  The provide material with safety advice for those enjoying the sea in the shores around Looe.   This raises income and support from the local community, awareness of the RNLI to visitors and enhances the safety of visitors and residents alike.

Would you like to be part of a happy band of volunteers that are helping to save lives at sea without even getting wet? Could you get involved in inspiring young people and adults when they visit the Looe Lifeboat Station by providing information and delivering key messages about the work of the RNLI, the boats and equipment we use, and help visitors stay safe near water?

Volunteering as a Boathouse Guide member of the Lifeboat Visits team and being part of the RNLI’s Looe Lifeboat Station means playing an important role within the charity as we aim to save the lives of people of all age groups through our visits programme.  A message given today could mean a life saved tomorrow.

In this role you will meet and greet visitors to the Lifeboat Station, presenting our vital water safety messages alongside promoting the work of the RNLI to motivate the next generation of RNLI supporters. You will liaise with the other volunteer team members and the volunteer Lifeboat Visits Officer, and together you will ensure that the visits do not impact negatively on operational procedures at the station.

In this role you will have the opportunity to meet lots of new people and develop your communication and presentation skills. Ideally you will have experience of working with people and possess strong team working skills alongside good communication and a willingness to be proactive in the community. If you possess or would like to develop these qualities we would love to hear from you.

Just as we give all our Lifeboat crews the right training and equipment to carry out their lifesaving work, we provide all of our volunteers with the necessary training and support to carry out their role effectively.  RNLI volunteers have access to a range of online learning materials, as well as opportunities for one to one support from fellow volunteers and RNLI specialists.

Please join us in making a difference to the safety of people of all ages.
