The RNLI’s Lifeboat Station in Blyth is looking to hear from anyone in the community who would be interested in volunteering for the RNLI as a crew member.

With a rich history of over 200 years, Blyth Lifeboat Station is a cornerstone of the local community providing essential lifesaving work to prevent the loss of life at sea. The station has an excellent opportunity for members of the local community to become part of the team, learn new skills that will enhance your CV and gain the satisfaction of playing your part in the community in which we serve.

An Atlantic 75 lifeboat has recently accompanied the stations D class lifeboat on a trial basis. Both boats provide cover for our patch of the Northumberland coastline which has seen large increases in recreational use over recent years.

All of the crew members are volunteers and many will say that it’s a way of life and will testify that you get out what you put in!  Given the nature of life-boating the pager can go off at any time of the day or night therefore, there is often an element of unsociable hours.  Being a lifeboat crew member means you’re available to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week and committing to an extensive RNLI training program which will turn you into a lifeboat crew member is all part of the deal!

All of our crew follow the RNLI’s national Competency Based Training Scheme and will provide you with first class training and support to ensure that you have everything that you need to help us save lives at sea!

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals that;

live or work in Blyth,
Have a driving license and access to a vehicle,
Are aged between 17 – 50 (retirement age of 55 years)
Can work well as part of a team.
Previous maritime experience is NOT essential

This is a great opportunity to join a motivated, fun and enthusiastic local team whilst meeting new people within your community.  You will have the satisfaction of helping to save lives at sea whilst all of the time you are building on skills and experience within a leading national charity.

To find out more, email: Blyth@rnli.org.uk. To apply visit www.rnli.org/volroles interested individuals are invited to visit the station on Sunday 4th June between 11am and 2pm to meet the team and view the station.
