Why we need you:

Join the volunteer team at Shine, the night marathon in London on 24th September 2016 and support thousands as they take on their marathon challenge aiming to raise a whopping £5 million for cancer research.

Walking a marathon is no mean feat but having the amazing support and endless enthusiasm of some friendly faces truly helps make it an unforgettable experience. Make a difference to someone’s night and help raise money to beat cancer sooner.

What will I be doing?

Help 17,000 walkers take on a marathon through the streets of London by supporting them at every step. Volunteers play a vital role on the night, so whatever time and skills you have – we’ve got a role for you!

General Volunteer – If you simply want to be involved and are happy to lend a helping hand where it’s needed most, then sign up as a General Volunteer now and we’ll find the perfect role for you.

Course Marshal Volunteer – Be the guiding light for our Shine walkers as part of our course route team to direct and motivate walkers through the night.

Venue Volunteer – You’ll be part of the dream team making sure our venues are running smoothly. There’s loads of opportunities: putting up marquees, handing out course maps, helping to run our bag drop service, cheering walkers at the start line and awarding some well-deserved medals at the finish.

Pit Stop Volunteer – We need you to keep our walkers motivated, help hand out snacks, offer bottles of water, as well as manage queues to ensure nobody has to wait too long at Pit Stops along the course.

Cycle Volunteer – Jump on your bike and use your cycling skills in a unique challenge to motivate our walkers and support fellow course route volunteers throughout Shine.

Driver Volunteer – You’ll be driving one of three vehicles crucial to the coordination of the marathon night walk, supporting our 17,000 walkers taking on the marathon challenge.

‘Volunteering with Cancer Research is easy - a great example of outstanding teamwork. The Cancer Research team value their volunteers which is one reason why I have come back to help wherever I can.’

Caroline, Shine Volunteer 2015
