Workaid has shipped 108 dedicated containers in Tanzania, Zambia, Kenya and Uganda; as well as projects in the UK. We have provided tools and equipment which has enabled more than 150,000 people to learn a trade and become employable and/or self-sufficient.
We receive no government money and have only 4 full time equivalent staff (1 of these full time).
Based on 2017/18 figures, each year we have 8,000 direct beneficiaries in 160 projects and saved over 80 tonnes of unwanted items form landfill. In 2016 we sent out over 42,000 tools in kits.
We are a fantastic charity in Chesham, Bucks, with a great working atmosphere where people can learn new skills, make friends, decent tea/coffee and nice biscuits and cake. We have volunteers who travel to us on the Metropolitan Line, so we must be good!
We have over 275 wonderful volunteers who refurbish carpentry, mechanics, metalwork, plumbing, horticultural and electrical tools, sewing machines, knitting machines, garden electrical items, plus larger machinery and petrol driven items for export to projects - plus we have a team of back office support staff. We also have expanding eBay and specialist auction activities for fundraising, as well as an onsite shop, which also require volunteers.
We were also awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service in 2016, which demonstrates we take our work seriously and invest in volunteers; including training courses for over 60 people in the last year
Come and see us in action - you'll love it!
