Garden Library Welcome Volunteer
RHS Garden Wisley, the Society’s flagship garden, which attracts some one million visitors per year, has a weekly volunteering opportunity on a Monday in the newly reopened RHS Wisley Garden Library. If you have an enquiring mind, an interest in gardens and gardening, and enjoy helping people, then joining our dedicated team of volunteers in the library might be for you.
As part of the RHS Libraries, the Garden Library at Wisley encourages visitors of all ages to access our unique collection of horticultural books, journals and online databases.
After training by our staff, volunteers will welcome visitors to the Library, assist with reference enquiries, register library borrowers, provide information about library services, displays and events, and operate our loan service using a computerised library management system.
Keeping the library in good order by shelving and tidying our stock, and making the second-hand book sales area inviting is also an important part of the volunteer role.
Previous library experience is an advantage, and interested candidates must be comfortable in an IT-based environment and committed to offering exceptional customer service. An interest in horticulture and gardening is also desirable.
We ask that weekday Library volunteers give a commitment of one day from 10:00 to 16:00 i.e. 5 hours volunteering plus an hour for lunch per week on a regular basis.
We do, of course, understand that life will sometimes get in the way, but it is important that applicants think about how much time they can realistically spend with us before filling in an application.
